Basic Blackjack Strategy
The first step toward winning at blackjack and mastering basic blackjack strategies is to master basic blackjack strategy. Basic blackjack strategy can help you in three other big ways: it can help bring the home advantage down from five cards to zero; it can help ensure that you never win by folding; and, best of all, it can help you avoid losing by betting too much and/or by betting with more than you actually have in the deck. Here are some of the basic strategies you need to master when playing blackjack:
Always know what cards are in the deck you’re playing with. This may seem obvious but it’s important to make sure that you know what you are dealing with at all times. If you don’t know what cards are in the deck you’re playing with, it is possible to try to guess by looking at the cards on the deck, but the chances are pretty slim that you’ll get a perfect guess or come out with the exact cards that are in the deck. So, instead of guessing, just look at the cards to see what type of cards they are.
Bet only in the hands that you have. When you do this you’re not betting on hands with which you are least comfortable, and it will also save you from losing more money than you can afford to lose. It will also help reduce the amount of money that you have to lose when you fold, because you are betting only in your strongest hands. For example, if you have four straight, good cards in your hand and one pair, your hands are considered to be of “good” strength; if you’re playing against a player who has eight straight, good cards in his hand, and one flush, your hands are considered to be of “strong” strength; and if you’re playing against a player who has five straight, good cards in his hand, and three pairs, then your hands are considered to be of “fair” strength.
Bet your money only on hands that you know you can beat. Many players tend to bet more on their hands when they’re playing blackjack because it seems like a lot of fun, and it also feels good to have a lot of money in your hand, but, as mentioned above, it’s better to bet only when you are sure that you can beat your opponent. Also, if you bet on your hand when you’re not sure that you can beat your opponent, you risk losing more money than you have to, since you aren’t sure of yourself anymore, and the chance of a wining is high.
Never bet more than you can afford to lose. The reason this rule is important is that you want to be sure that you always have at least as much money in the bank as you can lose, no matter how much you’re betting! Because if you’re betting more money than you can afford to lose, you will end up losing more money than you put into the pot.
These are just a few basic blackjack strategies that can help you play better when you play. Don’t worry about having all the winning strategies in the world – they won’t help you a lot if you’re not using them. You will be able to win more games in a shorter period of time if you learn to adapt your techniques as you play and keep trying new ones.
